Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Technical (CRVS) Technical Working Group Convenes to Advance Vital Statistics and Data Integration
On 30th April 2026, the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Technical Working Group (TWG) convened under the leadership of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), bringing together key stakeholders from across government, academia, and development partners to strengthen coordination and accelerate progress in Uganda’s CRVS system.
Participants in the ongoing meeting included representatives from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the Uganda Prisons Service, Uganda Police Force, Iganga–Mayuge Health and Demographic Surveillance Site (HDSS), Makerere University, and other key institutions involved in generating and using CRVS data.
Key areas of focus included:
- Adoption of the business process map for health facility deaths
- Presentation of NIRA’s new National Security Information System (NSIS)
- Development of the 2025 Vital Statistics Report
- Data sharing agreements between UBOS and CRVS data-generating institutions
The ongoing deliberations reflect continued commitment by stakeholders to build a more coordinated, efficient, and data-driven CRVS system in Uganda. Outcomes from this meeting are expected to inform key actions for improving vital statistics production and use in the country.
