The Uganda National Institute of Public Health through the Data Impact Program from 4th to 8th May 2026 conducted a Policy Brief writing training workshop workshop from the AFENET Boardroom.
This workshop was attended by Fellows froim 3 fellowship programes namely; Advanced FETP, Health Informatics and Lab Leadership Fellows respectively. This workshop was aimed at empowering fellows to write rigorous health policy briefs; outlining cost effective interventions to solve a number of public health problems in Uganda. Topical include public health problems in communicable diseases, non communicable diseases, One Health, antimicrobial resistance, and health informatics. Trainers are seasoned mentors from UNIPH staff and experienced officers from Ministry of Health.
On 04th May 2026, topics covered included a description of health policy, referencing documents in scientific writing, problem statement and root cause analysis. In 6 months time, final documents will become property of UNIPH but handed over to Policy Analysis Unit of Ministry of Health for adoption by government.
On 5th May 2026, the activities and achievements of the workshop included participants performing problem framing and root case analysis for various policy related health problems. Based on the identified root causes of public health problems, participants were expected to suggest policy options or possible interventions in order to achieve the aim of the workshop which is to write rigorous health policy briefs while outlining cost effective interventions to solve a number of public health problems in Uganda.
On 6th May 2026, the activities and achievements of the workshop include epidemiologic measures, problem statement and review (Epi measures), Group work with mentors on problem statement and then fellows prepared their presentations.
On 7th May 2026, the activities and achievements of the workshop included learning how to do stakeholder ID mapping, policy analysis table and identifying policy options.
On 8th May 2026, the activities and achievements of the workshop included all pending presentations, corrections and topic evaluations.
In Conclusion, this workshop was as success as 24 Fellows were Successfully trained in Policy Brief writing, All fellows had identified topics and problems to work on by Friday, 8th May 2026
