Dear Reader, We are pleased to share with you Issue 1, Volume 5 of the UQEB. This issue aims to inform stakeholders at district, national, and global levels on disease outbreak investigations, public health surveillance, and interventions undertaken in detecting, preventing and responding to public health emergencies in the country in the recent past. In this issue, we present a variety of issues including: Articles on COVID-19, Uganda’s preparedness for outbreaks, PHFP’s role in COVID-19 response, and highlights of the proceedings from the COVID-19 public dialogue held on 14th March 2020. We also present an investigation of malaria outbreak in Zombo District, a policy brief on Yellow fever, declaration of TB as a public health emergency in Uganda, an article on whether Uganda is ready for the next epidemic, highlights from the cohort 2018 PHFP graduation ceremony and the new cohort of fellows (Cohort 2020).
