On 6th October 2023, the Uganda National Institute of Public Health and National Public Health Emergency Operation Centre hosted a delegation of 15 members from Somalia.

The delegation had come to Uganda to attend a 9-day ToT training to enhance capacities of PHEOC and EBS and designing and conducting
SimEx to test the functionality of the health emergency management system.

Part of the TOT involved a field visit to the PHEOC in Uganda to demonstrate the PHEOC operations as well as the implementation of
the electronic public health emergency management (ePHEM).

During the visit, the delegation was taken through the PHEOC operations and functions during the different times (watch, alert and
response)

The objective of the field visit was to enhance capacities of surveillance and public health emergency operation centre so that the core staff in
Somalia PHEOC can strengthen their management of public health emergencies.

The delegation made a few inquiries on whether the UNIPH & NPHEOC had permanent structures and if not why, they also sought
to understand how the NPHEOC feeds into the UNIPH, what is the nterrelatedness and what the PHEOC do during peace time.

The UNIPH & NPHEOC team clarified on the above inquiries and the delegation applauded both entities for their commitment to
responding to Public Health Emergencies most notably controlling the EVD outbreak that started in Mubende in record time.
