JOB ADVERT: Research Assistants (10 positions). Deadline: 23 August 2024.

The Uganda National Institute of Public Health (UNIPH) in partnership with the Infectious Disease Institute (IDI), with funding from the 7-1-7 Alliance intends to assess the impact of 7-1-7 metrics on reduced infectious disease outbreak morbidity and mortality. This study will also analyze the actual cost of implementing public health interventions to achieve the 7-1-7 targets and explore the contextual factors that enhance the adoption and use of 7-1-7 metrics in Uganda.

The UNIPH seeks to recruit competent Research Assistants to support data collection for about one month. The survey will be conducted in two regions of the country: Mbale Region and Ankole Region.

Job title: Research Assistants (10 positions)

Report to: Field Supervisor Main role: Working together with the project research team to conduct data collection activities and ensure the successful implementation of the study in
the above regions.

Key Specific Responsibilities

• Attend all interviewer training including pre-testing sessions, and all debrief meetings.
• Mobilize and inform the sampled interviewees and obtain consent from all eligible members.
• Conduct interviews for all eligible and sampled participants.
• Ensure good quality data collection, including conducting callbacks to ensure coverage of all selected participants.
• Capture all the data onto the hardcopies and/or digital devices as the standard operating procedures provide.
• Ensure that all data are safe, correctly saved, and appropriately uploaded to the allotted server on time.
• Provide the supervisor with daily updates on data collection and participate in developing daily field reports.
• Obtain and prepare data collection forms, devices, and supplies.
• Ensure safe custody of all study equipment and materials.
• Perform any other duties relevant to this position as may be assigned occasionally through the field supervisor.

Minimum qualifications and experience

• Must possess an undergraduate degree, or a diploma, from a recognized training institution of higher learning.
• Working experience in at least one recent similar field research activity (within the last 5 years) as a data collector.
• Experience in collecting quantitative and qualitative data in health-related surveys using electronic devices such as smartphones/tables uploaded with data capture software such as Open Data Kit (ODK) is required.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well with others in teams.
• Must be able to communicate fluently (writing, reading, and speaking) in both English and the local language of the survey region.

Duration:

This appointment is valid for the period of data collection and shall automatically terminate on the expiry of the contract period.
Contractual appointments will be contingent on the successful completion of the training and tests/ assessments.
