Carol Nanziri (Dr.), MB.Ch.B, MPH(MUK) is a graduate of Makerere University with bachelor’s degree in Medicine & Surgery, a Master’s Degree in Public Health and a trained disease detective from Uganda Public Health Fellowship Program (UPHFP). She is the coordinator of the Uganda Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) program.

Before joining CVRS, she supported the Uganda rapid mortality surveillance project (URMS) to establish a community mortality surveillance system in 15 districts across the country. This program is established by the Uganda National Institute of Public Health (UNIPH) in partnership with CDC Africa. She has supported the establishment and implementation of RMS system at community level in the districts of Masaka, Rakai and Kyotera. Before joining URMS,

Carol coordinated a study with the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) to establish the prevalence of COVID-19 among Tuberculosis patients attending TB clinics in Kampala. Before this she was a fellow with UPHP under guidance of the National TB and Leprosy Program(NTLP). While at UPHFP, she investigated several disease outbreaks in the country including Cholera, intussusception, Crimean Congo Heamorrhagic Fever(CCHF), Anthrax, Typhoid, Malaria, TB, and Ebola Virus disease preparedness.

She also supported the NTLP in several program activities including data quality assessments, quality improvement and development of several technical program documents including the TB community guidelines and training curriculum, annual operational plan and the TB research strategy. Before joining the fellowship program, Carol worked supported the implementation of urban TB control programs with the TRACK-TB and TB CARE I projects in Kampala.

For several years, Carol had engaged in providing patient clinical care, mentorship and capacity building of health care workers across the country in HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment with the Mildmay Center Uganda. She is skilled in proposal writing, data management and analysis and report writing. She has also written and presented several abstracts at scientific conferences and published several articles in international journals.
