- Serve as the national focal point for the implementation of the International Health Regulations.
- Coordinate disease outbreaks and other health emergencies preparedness and response in the country.
- Coordinate stakeholders for the purpose of supporting and conducting surveillance and disease intelligence.
- Promote partnerships and collaborations among local, regional and international entities to address emerging and re-emerging diseases and public health emergencies.
- Establish, coordinate and maintain a national early warning and response surveillance platform including a data warehouse to address any health threat and health emergency
- Coordinate and ensure capacity building and development of a public health workforce to enhance public health security.
- Manage public health emergencies through response mechanism structures including national and regional Public Health Emergency Operation Centres.
- Advance public health operational, implementation and public health emergencies research to inform policy and practice including guidelines development and public health threats intervention programs.
- Maintain a repository for pathogens and materials relating to public health threats in accordance with the Uganda National Health Research Organizations Act.
