Asio Evelyn Patra

Asio Evelyn Patra is a dedicated UX Designer, Data Analyst, Researcher, Academic & Christian Author. She is currently a research fellow at the Uganda National Institute of Public Health (UNIPH), Department of Data and Analytics under the BIS project – Building stronger public health institutions and systems. She is specializing in strengthening birth registration in Uganda through digital registry integration at community, health facility and national levels.  With a passion for creating impactful digital experiences Asio plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of tech-savvy professionals, as well as designing intelligent user interfaces for digital health, egovernment, and e-commerce systems, with keen focus on sensor technologies, data collection, and analytics tools, as well as remote monitoring and surveillance systems.

In her role as an Assistant Lecturer in Makerere University – School of Computing & Informatics Technology, Asio is at the forefront of education, designing class content and delivering engaging lectures to undergraduate students in fields ranging from systems analysis and design to entrepreneurship principles. She takes pride in mentoring students through their final year projects, guiding them towards innovative solutions in Bachelor of Information Systems and Technology, Software Engineering, and Computer Science. Beyond the classroom, Asio is a proactive researcher, actively involved in the Development Informatics research group with a keen focus on health informatics, e-government, and e-commerce systems, strength in electronic service delivery and multimedia systems. With a passionate interest in Intelligent User Interfaces, she explores the intersection of service design and delivery, with machine learning to address critical societal challenges. Her research focuses on areas such as disaster management, mental health and well being, digital health systems, safe built environments, and the welfare of aging communities, as well as government systems, reflecting her commitment to leveraging technology for social good.

With a steadfast vision and unyielding determination, Asio Evelyn Patra is positioned to leave an indelible mark in the realms of User experience, interaction design, as well as user research of emerging technologies for  health. Proficient in employing data-driven and user-centered design methodologies, along with a keen interest in implementation science, Asio is primed to catalyze innovation and drive positive change through her research endeavors. Her commitment to excellence and her passion for leveraging technology for societal benefit promise to shape a legacy of innovation and transformative impact on public and global health in Africa and the world at large.
