Functions of the Uganda National Institute of Public Health

  1. Serve as the national focal point for the implementation of the International Health Regulations.
  2. Coordinate disease outbreaks and other health emergencies preparedness and response in the country.
  3. Coordinate stakeholders for the purpose of supporting and conducting surveillance and disease intelligence.
  4. Promote partnerships and collaborations among local, regional and international entities to address emerging and re-emerging diseases and public health emergencies.
  5. Establish, coordinate and maintain a national early warning and response surveillance platform including a data warehouse to address any health threat and health emergency
  6. Coordinate and ensure capacity building and development of a public health workforce to enhance public health security.
  7. Manage public health emergencies through response mechanism structures including national and regional Public Health Emergency Operation Centres.
  8. Advance public health operational, implementation and public health emergencies research to inform policy and practice including guidelines development and public health threats intervention programs.
  9. Maintain a repository for pathogens and materials relating to public health threats in accordance with the Uganda National Health Research Organizations Act.
