On January 12, 2024, the 8th cohort of 14 fellows graduated from the Public Health Fellowship Program (PHFP) Advanced Field Epidemiology Track. The fellows shared findings and special experiences from the various projects undertaken during their 2-year fellowship. These fellows led disease outbreak investigations for Sudan Ebola virus, malaria, measles, black water fever, food poisoning, etc. They have conducted surveillance data analysis and system evaluations, HIV-related projects, quality improvement projects, and epidemiological and cost analysis projects.
The fellows were hosted at priority departments of Ministry of Health who provided the mentorship and technical guidance to the fellows during their fellowship. The host sites included National Malaria Control Division, AIDS Control Program, Public Health Emergency Operation Centre, Reproductive Health Division, National Health Laboratories and Diagnostics Services and Kampala Capital City Authority among others.
The function was held at the 4 points by Sheraton Hotel in Kampala. It was graced by H.E William W. Popp the US Ambassador, Dr. Daniel Kyabayinze the Director Public Health, MoH, Dr. Yonas Tegegn Woldemariam the WHO Country Representative, Dr. Amy Boore the US CDC Director, Prof. Rhoda Wanyenze the Dean, MakSPH and Dr. Ben Masira the Director, AFENET.
